i understand that most of the things on this bike are not adaptable but somehow they are? it looks like to me a mc16 frame and bottom end with a chopped up mc16 wiring harness with a mc18 inst harness plugged into it and mc 18 engine control box's spliced onto the existing harness and a mc18 tail lite which is spliced in also.

Ive looked at both my mc18 r2j's, all your parts are from a 18 r2j,my frames have a sticker saying mc 18 and the frame numbers stamped in the headstock start mc18-,whats yours say?forget the sticker as you can change them.Show me a photo of were the top fairing mounts as the 18 has a different mounting point welded to the frame from the 16.Looks like you top end has been rebuilt and the rear shock looks like new and the carbs.

well ok then?

Wed Dec 28, 2005 1:21 am » Post: #11 » Download Post

from what i am told very little from the 18 will adapt to the 16? how do you explain this? appparently the entire ign sys that is on here aint for a 16 eng? if that is a mc18 wiring harness i'll kiss your A__. so i guess i can start my resto as a mc18, i can get a 18 harness and all the mounting crap i should be able to use a 18 undertray and subframe..yes? i cant find out what all the little black boxes are due to the parts manual giving me part no's and discription's from a 16. according to the parts blow up of the ign sys none of this is 16 do ya'll suppose it can be deregulated now? as much black tape that is on the harness it prolly allready is. SO can i make an 18 out of a 16 frame and eng? if i have all the 18 stuff? Smile

I wouldn't say very little will adapt, on the cotrary, I expect there's a lot of stuff that will. Just because no-one has answered all the questions for you, maybe it just means no-one has actually done it, and therefore aren't willing to speculate too much. Maybe if you do some experimentation, then YOU will be qualified to answer the next person who asks.

You've had much more feedback since you posted images like I asked. Your descriptions weren't much more than vague!

Yeah, well I'm working on that. Do you know that the MC16/MC18 parts manual alone is over 200 pages? That's 200 pages I have had to scan, clean up and resample, invert, then optimise so the images load as quickly as possible, while keeping the highest possible quality, then enter every single part number into tables one-by-one, and translate the descriptions.

That is why I've not all the way to the ignition section of the MC18 section yet.

ok lets see what i can come up with.
the black box in the centre of the rear sub frame looks like a pgm 1 from a 18. the smaller box zip tied to the side looks like a 16 RC valve control unit. from what i can rember if you use 18 PGM and loom the 16 servo motor runs backwards so that could be why the 16 unit is grafted in.
the sub frame looks like 18 with a bit of 16 stuck on the end. the front fairing stay is all wrong for a 16 its an 18 one. the 16 frame does not have the holes to fit the stay so if it looks drilled and tapped its a 16 frame if it looks like all the other frame inserts i,d say it an 18 frame.
the front and rear end are 18.

Like Jeff says its a 18 loom and pgm grafted in.Im not sure about the top fairing stay being from a 18 as it looks different to both of mine. Also the clocks are from a 18 but the top yoke looks like a 16 one.
