Help, Just bought a race bike!!!! MC18???

Mon Jul 04, 2005 8:07 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Im going to pick up a race bike i got cheap, apparently fully rebuilt and ready to go, Ive seen a picture and indeed it has race fairing on it. however, the chap said it was a mc18, but she has a single sided swing arm, any ideas, can you fit a single swinger to a MC18? the good news is he is chucking in his vj21 rgv250 as well, which is a runner but needs a caliper and a fuel tap! to get going, to be honest ill probally pass this on as a complete bike or as spares if anybody needs something let me know.... i may split the 18 too if its a pile of pooh, but i got both for good money.... anyway back to that swing arm>>> any ideas, is it possiable to fit a single swinger to a 18?

Yes, it is possible. It's not a straight swap, but it can be done.

In fact, Tom Hofton (Racer38 on the forum) did this very conversion about 8 years ago! Maybe it's his old chassis?!

Yep I'm fairly certain that it's my old MC18. Does it still have the RS250 front end?

One way to check is the shock linkage mount. It's made up of a large blob of ali weld!

Tell you what this site is turning into a friend re-unite site! my MC18, and MC28 have surfaced, anyone seen an MC21 with 98 HRC colours.

Yeah, pretty sure it's yours too Tom... I don't know any other MC18 in the UK with a Pro-Arm.

Remember this?...

May bring a little tear back to the corner of your eye! Wink

I sold the bike quite a few years ago.....'97 I think. It was a track bike originaly, open carbs with HRC airbox thingy. Maxon SP rear shock, '91 RS 250 forks, wheel and disks....might have had the calipers as well. The swinger was from an NC30 as when I started the project the MC28 had only been avaliable in Japan for a year.

The lights were for an MOT but were shite. I was young and inexperienced and used to run it on the cheapest 2-stroke I could find. Ran it on the road for a few years and it never missed a beat.

Oh yes it's all coming back to me now. It was pre mix and had no kick start. An absolute bitch to start, used to spend ages bumping it up and down the road. A great source of entertainment for my house mates.

Oh the memories......

Oh believe me it was a pain. I got a series of engineering shop to attack the swinger. In the end it was done. The list below details what was done…….as far as I can remember.

Shock linkage mount moved

The hole in swing arm widened to centralise the shock (NC30 has it off to one side)

Spacers for the rear wheel to make it track in line with the front

I’m sure there was a little more…
