Hi guys, i am working on a bike a friend bought. it's a 1988 nsr 250r. it has a stuck piston. i got it apart and am going to order new pistons and have the cylinders re coated. i have been reading that this bike can take one of 3 different pistons. a-D. B or C. i do not know what piston this bike takes. i have been trying to do a vin search but i can't find any info. the first of the vin says MC 18- can someone help steer me in the right direction.. Thanks.. Phil
If you use the parts guide on the left side of the website, you can get part number. An 88 NSR should be a 2J. Use the parts number on Fowlers website and it should show you the superceded part number. Most likely for an MC21. Send the pistons to the platers and they will adjust the cylinder coating to the pistons. You need to be sure that the exhaust bridge on the cylinders aren't damaged, otherwise they will probably fail and seize _________________ Why do things simply when you can complicate them
Please note neither "mobile friendly", so should be viewed on a PC/laptop. (I'm working on it!)
Repeating what Rob says, it's largely irrelevant which piston you use, if the barrel is going to be replated. Send whichever piston is most readily available to you to the plating company along with the barrel, and have them plate it to match.
