WTB MC21 frame for reasons

Wed Feb 15, 2023 7:10 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello all I've had some trouble lately trying to register my MC21 here in Ireland. Long Long story short I don't have the UK V5 log book for it. The man I bought it off passed away and I never received it from him and his partner has no idea where it is or if it is even still around. I rang the DVLA in the UK and they told me numerous times that they will not speak to me because I am not a UK resident. So its looking like I need a miracle or I'll just have to buy a bare frame with a book. Would anybody be willing to part with one?

I've put over 8k into this bike and I'd really like to drive it this summer.

Could you ask the previous owners partner to request a replacement V5?

I don't think it would be disrespectful to post the name of the seller here now. You're only looking for information, and maybe someone here knew him/the family.

I'm still away in Asia, and not back for a while yet. I can try to contact DVLA on your behalf later in the year if you still have no luck. I have 2x MC21 HRC frames to sell, but that's not going to help you as they can't be registered, as DVLA don't know what an NH3 frame number is, even though we documented it for them, and showed them a re-framed bike c/w with the original frame that was swapped out! They can indeed be hard work, even if you're a Brit! 🙄🙄🙄

Maybe another forum member would be prepared to try to talk to DVLA about it if you ask, and share the details (via PM/e-mail of course)? Several guys here have registered imports themselves, so have experience dealing with DVLA. Just ask!

The owner was a forum member here by the name of Spirit or Richie as he was known to us in Ireland. Apparently Ive since found out that the V5 was probably not in his name either. I think I'd need a UK man (or woman) to ring the DVLA and see if they can get a replacement book. Id be willing to pay for your time of course.

I'll drop you a line once I am back in the UK, but hopefully someone will step up and make a call for you in the mean time.

Unfortunately, as with everything 90's, and particularly 2-stroke, prices of fames with V5s are going for silly money... if you can find one for sale!

Maybe worth dropping one of the Japan auction agents to see if they can get a frame off Yahoo! with the Japanese registration papers, and then go through the import proceedure? Naomi MiyabePlus and Anthony Hardie both have good reputations -- I've personally used Anthony, but there are several forum members here who rate Naomi highly. Find them both on Facebook.

I don't know the import/registration proceedure for either Ireland or the UK myself, but there are others here who've done it in the UK and may be able to give you some ideas. In the UK there is something called a NOVA Certificate, which is then used to obtain a V5, but that's about all I know. Anyway, it's just another idea to maybe consider.

Here's an example from Yahoo! Auctions:

https://www.jauce.com/auction/l1081681164

But while you could bid via Jauce, I'd really say you need an agent for something like this, who can talk to the seller to ensure it comes with Japanese documentation which would be essential for import & registration.

If you have the U.K. reg number then it should be just a case of filling in a v62 form with the £25 fee and then using a U.K. address to get it sent to. Then Transfer to Ireland .

thanks Andy and Zeus. Yes I've been talking with someone through PM and I just need to send them the info and they might be able to do it for me. I would be absolutely thrilled if it was that easy.

Andy I think buying a frame would be a last resort but I do know both of them, I was in contact with them in the past. thanks for the info.

That sounds promising then.

I expect you've already seen this...

Registration of New or Imported vehicles

Matters relating to the first registration of new vehicles are dealt with by the Revenue Commissioners. Further details can be got here.

Matters relating to the registration of imported vehicles (vehicles registered since 1 September 2010) are now dealt with by the NCTS. Anyone importing a vehicle into the Republic will have seven days to make an appointment for the pre-registration inspection and 30 days to complete the registration process. Appointments can be made at 1890 927 787.

The NCTS helpline is available at 1890 200 670/1890 412 413.

Imported vehicles registered prior to this date will continue to be dealt with by the Revenue Commissioners.

Thanks Andy, after an hour and a half on the phone today I managed to get pointed in the right direction. I've to make an enquiry to a specific department of the revenue commissioners. I sent all the details off and hopefully I'll hear a response soon letting me know if they will register the bike in Ireland. I've heard people say that they will ask for an affidavit so hopefully that's all I'll have to do. If they reject it I'll need a V5 for sure.

Hello comrades, I have an appointment booked with the Registration authorities. The government department I was dealing with told me that in place of a V5 all I would need is a letter with the bike credentials from a genuine classic/vintage motorcycle club here in Ireland.

I have found a VJMC here in Ireland and they are only charging me 40 euros for the documentation. Hopefully the appointment goes well in 2 weeks time with the authorities and I will have her registered. Thanks to everyone who helped thus far especially Andy and Wayne_Gardner (Nick) who have been super helpful through email correspondence.

The VJMC is a great club, with some excellent support. They have supplier discounts including parts
