the bike i just gots pipes are pretty bashed up so i called my local bike shop and the recomended i take them to a panel beaters to get the dents taken out. is this wise? also they are starting to rust what can i get them coated with to protected.

You need to take them to someone who can repair the pipes. They will fill them with fluid under pressure and heat the damaged areas to allow them to regain their shape.

You can then have them shot blasted and either painted, (not great) or powder coated (high temp) to bring them up like new.
