taking forks apart

Sat Jul 21, 2007 3:19 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi, I am trying to seperate my fork slider from the alloy body ,got the spring and all the damper rod out as well as the oil seal clip. now the fun bit Confused is it a case giving giving a good tug on the slider to pop the seal out or do i need to go into the slider and undo the castlated nut(that requires me to make a special tool to undo) i can see on the inside of the slider before it will come apart. this is a bog standard mc21r fork with no rebound or comp damping Sad many thanks hope you can make sense of this post
cheers Malc

StephenRC45 is your man for questions about pulling apart front suspension... he loves it! I'm sure he'll be along soon! (Work kicks him out about 5pm on a Saturday!) Smile

Take a look at this:

If you have removed the dust seal, circlip, damper rod and allen bolt at the fork bottom it just needs a good hard tug to break the seal and bush free.

No No No. dont use a vice it can deform the tube.

Simply clamp the forks back in the yokes and use the bottom of the fork as slide hammer.
