Buying advice

Sat Jan 21, 2017 11:43 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi chaps,

I'm from Vietnam, might be unfamiliar to some of of you guys but anyway, it is a small country in South East Asia.

I'm looking to buy a NSR250 MC16

Cosmetic wise, it is in good condition.
Engine starts after one kick

However, it was kept in the garage for about 10 years without proper maintenance

The gas tank might be leaking (told by the seller). The inside of it was brown and might be oxidized (i guess?) I don't know know the word for it in English.

The lights and signals does not work. The seller said it is because the battery was dead.

Another MAJOR problem is the bike is abnormally heavy to push around. I had to use all my strength to push it out of the garage.

Can you guys advise me on those problems?

And what are the other problems should i look for before buying this bike?

Please help!!!

It ceartainly looks in very good condition for the age, the bike is probably hard to push because the brakes are binding, so the calipers will need stripping and freeing off, if the gas tank is badly oxidised, or rusty as we call it in uk, it will need a good clean out, if it is leaking it might be rusted right through, looks to be a good project if it's not silly money, in the uk that machine with those problems is probably valued at around £1000---£1200 in my opinion. Good luck with it.

Hello "Liveraci", and welcome to NSR-WORLD! Smile

As Les says, that looks like a fantastic find! I agree that most likely the brakes are binding, plus I expect the chain is rather tight (not tension, but because of dried chain oil). It's possible for the wheel bearings to become very tight too.

The plastics look in great condition, and it all looks original. Given that it starts & runs easily, buying it and returning it to 100% operational is a no-brainer in my opinion. Hope to see more about it soon!

The seller is asking around 2000 pounds.

I will try to negotiate for lower price.

Great find, looks like a good honest original bike. If the bike is starting ok, could be the lighting fuse, worth a check first, before you look any further, good luck with it.

That's a lot of money for an MC16 in SE Asia, in my personal opinion, but on the surface it looks like a great bike that needs minimal attention.

I contacted the seller to ask for a discount.

Didn't work out very well.

He insisted on selling it for 2000 pounds.

I might just wait for another month to come again and ask for a discount because the bike was listed for 3 months and had not been sold yet.
