1989 MC18SP advice needed

Thu Aug 25, 2016 5:39 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I picked up a 1989 MC18SP with Terra bodywork and it needs a few things.
Tires
Forks tubes
fork seals
chain/sprockets

Is there a company that would have NOS parts for the forks tubes and seals?
Is there a company that would have chain/sprockets?
What brand and model tires do you like for these bikes?

Fork tubes....look for original equip only. Don't buy the cheap Chinese after market, you life depends on good steel. Now is hard to find, I was able to spot a pair on yahoo japan, but paid fair amount. If you just need to re chrome try forks by frank in us. Mine were beyond repair.

Fork seal and Sprockets...TYGA

Chain...any reputable brand. O-ring for street, non o-ring for track.

Tires...Dunlap Alpha 13....used on KTM 390 cup bikes. Nice compound. Pirelli makes a size to fit as well.

Thanks, I'll check Yahoo Auctions for the forks and Tyga for the other stuff.

The rear tire on the MC18SP is 18" so the Dunlops and Pirellis don't work.

Is there a parts manual on this site?

I'm in Chicago and have an '89 r5k Seed. You can use the NC30 upper tubes with cartridges and that opens the door for custom valving/shimming. Get sprockets from Tyga as mentioned. I use DID ERV3 520 chains on all my bikes. I had Bridgestones but switched to the MC21 17" rear and run Pirelli Supercorsas now.

Tyga was a dead end for sprockets. They don't have the front sprocket. I'll keep searching. Thanks for the advice about the NC30 tubes. I have one of those so I will compare them. I know where to get brand new NC30 tubes so that would be great if they work.

You can definitely get front sprockets from Webike or Yahoo Auctions Japan.

Fyi, I just picked up a front sprocket on Yahoo Japan for my mc28. Figured it would be good to have a NOS spare. You might look there for your mc18.

For some reason I have a hard time searching on that site. What section did you search in and what phrase did you search with?

We could do you a 14T or 15T front, and 41T or 42T rear if you are stuck.

15/42 are the stock sizes.
