MC21 SP Rothmans Replica

Thu Nov 22, 2012 8:40 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

G'day lads!

I bought this bike off nsrdownunder on here back in December last year, took it for a short blast and it has been sitting under a sheet in the garage ever since.

After finishing my last project it was time to dust it off and commence the complete strip and rebuild.

This is a good working bike in fair condition so just going to strip it to pieces and clean, polish and rejuvenate every part as well as replace bearings and seals etc to restore it to it's former glory.

The engine was rebuilt 2000kms ago including a new crank and has HRC reed/stuffers, HRC jet kit, HRC delimiter box, cases lightly flowed and port matched to cylinders and Tyga pipes although i'm going to swap the GP style pipes for the side by side pipes, I also have a spare SP rear head so i'll grab a hose for the mod here too.

It has Chinese fairings on it so i'm going to change the design to the Rothmans scheme, i have enough spare fairings to almost cover two bikes, some of which are genuine some aren't, i'm hoping to be able to have a full set of genuines just to try and keep it as close as possible to genuine Honda, not a big deal if I can't though seeing as it won't be the scheme that this bike left the factory with.

I am no stranger to rebuilds, however I am no expert on the NSR's so hoping to gain as much insight, info and possibly a part or three of you guys.

Feel free to add any advice, info or criticism along the way as you see fit.

Cheers lads.

Chris.

Chris,

I'm in Sydney also and currently trying to emulate RichG's two Rothman's 250 reps. see: RS250R-W Freddie Spencer Replica.

I have one runner that I'm touching up and another that wa a parts bike, but pretty complete.

I'd certainly like to keep in touch particularly about paint work and stickers, plus I'll be pulling down the parts motor to see what surprises may be instore.

I do have a vinyl cutter for decals, but it can't do the Rothman's complex logos.

Regards neil

Hey Lads, nice to see some Sydney and Aussie folk in here.

Seems we're all on the same path. I've a 93 MC21 SP and am bring it to Rothmans with loads of HRC and other goodies. Things have slowed a little but aiming to get back to this soon.

Keen to know any of the issues you faced, who did your work, interested in the decals as I need to cut some vinyl for the right rear read ribbon and just some general feedback.

I've ordered a new crank from Japan which should be here soon and got at a 'Good Price' $1140 Delivered.
Have an MC28 300 engine ready to go into another frame after this build but have always loved and wanted a Rothmans. It's just classic!
