Carbs setting

Fri Mar 28, 2014 12:53 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I've checked the carbs setting and this is what I have found:

Left cyl/right cyl

MJ 220/200
PJ 40/40
Needle 1169/1169
Airscrew 1 and 3/4 both

Any suggestions or comments?

It will all depend on what fuel set up your engine is running. As I said before, you need to pull the cylinders off and work out what sort of squish and volume you are running to decide what fuel to run.

The next trip would be to the dyno to get some basic set up then the rest fine tweek at the track.

I can highly recommend a trip to Performance Engineering for a session on their Dyno. You would be in good hands. It would be well worth the trip!

I fear it might be somewhat of a trip from Spain Simon but thanks all the same.

No more than a trip from the UK to Spain for a track day/weekend!

A setup on say, 18th or 19th July, could work out well... Wink

Well, the point is that I've bought the bike with zero km engine and I am a bit lazy and also have a great lack of time to open the engine to check it out. Unfortunately the former owner didn't backed up the diameter, squish and so on.

Bike is now sitting on a podium and she'll be there for a long time by now, waiting for new tyres to look even better.

That's the reason why I was asking if the jetting setup is safe presuming it is ready to run unleaded.

Yes, a trip to uk for a setup would be fantastic, and also a chance to meet you guys.

Have you seen this yet?

NSR-WORLD 2014 GP Track Day

This is my reasoning behind a possible setup visit early in the 3rd week of July! Wink

PS Tickety-Boo means 'in good order' ... en buen estado Laughing Laughing

Stephen, These are the photos of the spares that were removed prior to engine's overhauling, I guess it can provide some clue of engine's setup.

Also I've already ordered a set of carbon reeds, 0,36mm thickness, they stated that according to their experience this is best design for this engine and that in case engine eats them they will make thicker reeds for free, so let's see. They are slightly curved against the box for better contact between reed and box.

More things, in the box I found these two brand new spark plugs, obviously the correct is the left one but what's the difference with the other one on the right apart from the length?

What non annoying spark plugs are you using? 😉

Thanks!

That head would indicate a '98-00 unleaded set up running around 0.7mm squish. If the other heads that are fitted to the bike are the same you need to be running a really good unleaded race fuel.

Stephen. Understood, will check.

Elf mits 46 is the gas used on it.

Have you seen the photo of the spark plugs? Can I use ngk R7282-105? Or do you recommend other one?

Thanks!

I would use the plug and cap off an RS250 NXA if I wasn't able to get the original 500V plug. The NXA plug and cap is short like the 500V's and can also be used with the HRC det counter fitted to the 500V.
