My venerable beast gets very hot (boils) in Bangkok traffic at long, 3 1/2 min stationary at some lights. It is Ok above about 60- 70 kph but...

I do have a fan, a 90 mm dia unit, but it is touch and go. I'm looking for something a little bigger maybe 5".

As there are no fixing points for a fan it needs to be something with a stationary shroud that can be mounted actually on the fins.

I need to change so I can get back to riding. At present it is a concern and kinda gnaws at the back of my mind so keeps me from going to many places.

I have not used a fan yet but maybe you could richer the idle circuit to try and help you out ? Just guessing

Are you running a thermostat ?, if so try it without.
