NSR-W project R2J

Sun Feb 02, 2014 4:56 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Might of bitten off quite a bit here.

It does come with most of an engine though,

As it happens we've just fully rebuilt a spare crank for a R2J so that will go in. We also have a few nice F3 parts so will fit a few of them but want to keep it looking stock.

Looks as if it may feel a bit vague on the front end with such a low profile front tyre.
Such a low profile, I can't even see it. Laughing

The front tyre is awesome, you don't need to put the side stand down.

Well. It's not all that bad really.

Harness looks ok but we are missing the clocks, front fairing stays and head light. Pipes and all the fairings. Got a seat unit in blue and white in very good condition.

Should make a nice little bike. We've got a F3 swinging arm to fit and some F3 carbs but the rest will stay as OE I think. Sent a load of parts away to be replated to day.

It'd be nice to fit a dry clutch to it but its almost a shame to do too much as its so stock.

You can never have enough projects Stephen! Good to see you still have the enthusiasm for a humble mc18 despite having a workshop full of NSR500's. Very Happy

It might not be what you are after if you are going for the original r2j look but I have a set of Chinese Terra bodywork and the tank off your old Terra in my loft if you are stuck.

Thanks Paul.

I'm a little way away from fairings. I'll try and find some blue/white R2J stuff first.

I wasn't really a R2J fan. I really like the R5/6K's but I think this will make a nice little road bike. My daughter used to love being taken to school on a bike so if I get this up and running in time for summer we can do that again. Plus maybe done the London Ace cafe days again etc. I got up there a few times on the R5K.

It will look nice in original colours. You dont see enough R2J's about.

I bet you get some funny looks dropping the kids off at school on a motorbike!

Yeah we used to get a few questions from the teachers in fact as she had to keep her helmet at school. Took her in on a turbo Hayabusa once, she didn't like that at all!

Funny, my missus used to take my nipper to playschool on the back of her Honda 90, he couldn't reach the pegs so he use to put his feet inside the panniers, and would you believe, some sod reported her. Yes she has passed her test for a bike.

Just about finished rebuilding the engine. Cases have been blasted and all the nuts and bolts replated. If I'm lucky I might get the engine back in the chassis next weekend.

Chassis is coming on really well. However the rear shock while looking half reasonable has zero rebound damping. It's not really worth rebuilding a R shock though so I need to either find another good condition R shock or a MC18 SP unit.

Frame after cleaning and blasting.

I just can't do anything with the anodising of the frame beams short of having them reanodised.
