275 kit

Tue Aug 27, 2013 11:50 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I noticed on a site of which I shall not speak that there is a 275 kit available for the NSR250. Anyone know much about it; good or bad?

This question came up recently here: http://nsr250.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12864 (assuming it's the same kit you have spotted).

I went with a 250 kit. Work as good as factory parts.

Nothing beats the best 250, and that's official! Wink

Well that seems settled then Very Happy

The reason I was asking is that I pulled the exhaust off the bike and had a look up the ports. There is some small vertical marks on the piston and bore of the barrel (I'm assuming rings need replacing at the very minimum). The marks don't look major but I wasn't sure at what point a barrel may need to be re-coated - it's expensive and of questionable quality here in Aus. Can anyone give me any pointers or direct me to a post on barrel and piston diagnosis?

I'm having fun with this bike but, as someone else recently posted, it's a somewhat frustrating and expensive process getting it to the point where I will be happy with it's running condition.

Much obliged,
Jim

Heya Fox

I'd have to agree with your thoughts at the end of your last post. After owning mainly ZXR400's which run like clockwork, owning an NSR in terms of maintenance is like owning a steam train.

cheers

Best thing to do, by far, is pull the barrels off, and post photos of them and the pistons.

Leave the heads on, and all it will just cost you base gaskets and some gudgeon (wrist) pin circlips, although you should budget at the very least for a set of rings.
