is the airbox needed

Not too sure if I should have posted on this forum, but it is racing I just have extra two wheels Smile

I Still having loads of grief with the MC18 I have fitted in a superkart chassis, starts fine and tick's over well,ok right up though the rev range until it gets to 8500- 9000 then the lower/front barrel just dies, been through everything from carburation to electrics to new pistons and barrels.
I am not running a airbox just filter pods on the end of carbs. I have been told me that I need to run the airbox to get the max out of this motor. can any one confirm that this might be causing the problem I have. do I need the airbox fitted?.
kick myself if this is the case as I spent hours on this motor Sad.

My bike revs to I think about 11.5-12K. Sorry, but I am by no means a mechanic and unfortunately cannot help you with properly diagnosing your issue.

Have you tried a new / another ignition unit on it?

Have you checked the pick ups?

Have you checked for arcing on the coil supply cables (black pitting)?

Have you checked the power jet?

What colour is the plug?
