MC21 Rothmans/Luca Cadalora Replica

Here is my 1991 MC21 Rothmans/Cadalora Replica updated with modern suspension.

I started with a rather thrashed MC21 but with a California title and registration...which is as good as gold here in the Republik of Kalifornia! I knew the crank and seals were bad but also found the cases were thrashed to! (Thanks to Andy and Pereformance Engineering!) The bike was completely stripped and cleaned and scrubbed.

For the last 10+ years I have taken a few RGV250SP VJ23's that were also trashed and rebuilt and upgraded them by searching eBay and other motorcycle websites to source used OEM parts and upgraded aftermarket parts to build my projects......I've become rather good at finding little gyms:-)

Engine: Sent to Andy at Performane Engineering for full rebuild and SP tune.....I can tell you they do A++ work and Andy went above and beyond in answering questions, advise on shipping and sourcing parts I found out I needed when they were in the process of rebuilding the engine...i.e. Finding out the cases were bad Embarassed

VHM Heads - Found a great deal on the heads which won't really add performance but will help with minimizing detonation because of the crappy California gas.also nice to have reusable O rings instead of the head gasket.

HRC Jet kit

Pod Filters

TT-F3 Radiator - Custom (meaning I made them myself..lol) coolant hoses that allow the use of the original thermostat.

Tyga upgraded clutch.

Dog Fight R chambers - the latest version with carbon stingers. I made a deal with Samurider.com for two sets with a discount and free shipping from Japan....A bit less than the equivalent Tyga pipes Very Happy

Wheels - I sourced front and rear BST Carbon wheels. The rear came from a HONDA CRF450R and is 5" wide. The front is from a 2012 GSXR 600 and is the standard 3,5". Had to make a few spacers to get the rear to fit but was pretty easy.

Suspension - Rear: Ohlins NSR250 S46HR1 from Tyga
Front: Ohlins FGRT forks sprung and valved for the NSR

I bought a virtually new set of BST Carbon wheels and the Ohlins forks off a guy for $2800 USD. Then sold the rear wheel (it was 6.25"..lol) to another guy for $1800 USD the forks and front wheel for $1000. Found the rear used on EBay for $650.

Triple Clamps - Robby Moto billet clamps with the correct 35mm offset for the NSR. They are for a GSXR1000. They only needed the top of the stem machined to fit the slightly smaller stock nsr top nut. They bottom diameter and length were all spot on. The offset is also adjustable with different inserts if I ever wanted to play with that.

Ohlins steering damper

Brakes - Front and rear are Brembo. Rear uses a Tyga billet hangar with a used Ducati Brembo twin piston caliper. The from uses Brembo M4 radial calipers and HP 210mm rotors. Brembo GP master cylinder and CRG clutch perch. Steel braided brake lines front and rear.

I took weights of most of the stock parts and the upgrades I put on......most are lighter or about even. I will post the weights some time in the future.

I kept the original bodywork which was a bit thrashed and replaced it with a set of the Chinese bodywork. The Chinese stuff is actually pretty nice....I would give it a 7 out of 10.
