NSR 250 MC18

Fri Apr 08, 2005 1:48 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello all

First time on the site and first time owner of the NSR. I bought the bike with one mashed up piston and barrel. Can anyone tell me if the barrels are identical on the bike, ie will the top fit the bottom and vice versa?

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum "Wigdebs".

You can fit barrels from any MC18 on to your bottom end. The top heads are different to the bottom heads though, so bear this in mind and use the correct configuration.

Thanks for the reply Andy.

That makes it a bit easier finding a second hand part!!!

Bear in mind that barrels can usually be repaired for much less than the price of new. Specialist firms can weld and replate pretty much anything these days.

Have a look at www.langcourt.co.uk

If needs be, you can also fit MC21/MC28 barrels to the MC18. You may need to re-work the coolant hose plumbing though.

For the cost involved with sourcing 2nd hand parts, I would have the cylinder repaired and buy a new piston/rings.
