speedo

Thu Mar 17, 2005 7:11 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all
Was wondering if anyone else has problems with the speedo readin incorrectly, I was out the other day on the mc 21 got to a long stright`ish road, and rember looking at the speedo which was flickering around 90 mph, just before I slowed to turn at a junction.
Anyway wen we pulled up the dude behind me (on a cbr 400 triarm) said before i sat up to slow I was pulling away from him and his speedo read 110mph.
Should they not read closer readings than that like 5 mpr differance not 20mph

an nsr pulling away from a cbr, sounds like stephen and monkey at a trackday Laughing .The best way to find out if the speedo is working ok is to follow a friend in a car and get them to signal to you at 30,40 and 70 .Most modern cars dont have a cable drive to the speedo they run off a sensor in the gearbox so are pretty acurate.

I may be completely wrong but on the 21 and 28, as the drive is from the gearbox, if you have a non standard sprocket (standard 40T on the 21 and 44T on the 28 i think) then the speedo will be out...

Probly best to just not bother to look at speedo then. I think the CBR may have been behind by choise, no T`2 smell

And now for a sensible answer!

Check that the drive to the speedo isn't worn - the parts are plastic and obviously wear over time.

Secondly, check the cable is free to rotate in the sleeve (with it removed). If not, get some lube down there.
