Fork rechroming

Mon Jun 20, 2011 8:04 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hey,

How much should it cost to get my fork stanchions rechromed? Is it any more expensive to get the gold coating? Does anybody know what it is called?

Thanks, that looks like the stuff.

A google revealed that hard anodising is cheaper, and still looks and functions better than chrome. Supposedly.

Might be the way to go when I get around to doing this.

TiN coating goes over the chrome, so it's an additional cost. It's just there to reduce stiction and look sexy, DLC is much the same.

Hard anodising will increase the stiction also, chrome is the best if you're restoring an old fork.

Hmm, it all seems a little bit expensive.

Next time I have the stanchions off, I might heat them a little bit with the blowtorch, should give it that lustrous gold finish if I can keep steady enough...
