Which calipers?

Thu Mar 03, 2005 12:21 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I've got 3 sets of calipers, and I was wondering if yous all could help me by:
a) Identifying them
b) Telling me which ones are best (if there's any difference).

The first contender *might* be off an RS250, or an NSR250R, or who knows what. Pictures are outside (left pic) - inside (right pic):

Then the second one, here, is likely to be off a regular NSR250R, again, inside - outside are left -right pictures respectively.

And finally these I am pretty sure are stock MC28 SE calipers:

The second set are definately stock MC21 calipers. That is what I used on my '89 RS fork conversion. The third set are definately MC28 stock calipers. The first set, though, I am not sure about. Probably the stock RS250 calipers that belong on forks like mine.

1. Correct! RS250 (May also be RC30) Easily distinguished as a "racing" calliper by the quick-release pad retaining pins. Also has Allen screws holding the halves together for easier dissassembly/servicing. May be wrong, but I think the calipers will have slightly different piston sizes to the NSR calliper.

2. Correct! MC21.

3. Correct! MC28.

Great!! Thanks again. Such a swift and precise response from the community.

I'm going to use the RS250 set in that case, but I think I'll take the braided hoses from the stock set.
