import tax and VAT fro goods from Tyga

Thu Jul 07, 2005 12:57 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

thinking about spending £457.22 with Tyga, aboyt £50 of this is postage so the amount for the goods will be just less than £400.00.

how does the import duty thang work, whats the worst case scenario for me any ideas.

cheers.

I spent about £500 and import tax was about £35 as I recall. that was four years ago, so doubt it's changed much.

WORST case...
Add 21%.
17.5 VAT
3% import duty.

It's supposed to be 17.5% VAT + about 10% Import Duty I seem to recall.

If Parcelforce get involved, i.e. you use "standard" shipping, you will be looking at around £15 for their "administration" which there is absolutely nothing you can do about.

Oh, it's 3% is it? Like I said, I wasn't sure.

It's still a chunk best to prepare yourself for. If it doesn't get charged then it's just a bonus!! Very Happy

I bought an item from USA for $50 ($50 post $50 item total about £45) I ended up paying double about £90 all in all about 5 months ago.

They charged what they thought the value was. You have to then write in to reclaim the money you have paid in Evil or Very Mad and it takes ages Evil or Very Mad

Be careful, Depending one what you buy and how its shipped the uk are adding an additional 17% on top of duty and vat, found this out when i bought a gift for the missus from the internet, it was shipped as new ityems, best if they can ship spare parts or secondhand, or even machine parts.
