date of manufacture

Mon Dec 27, 2010 1:26 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I am wondering if anyone has a list, or knows where I can find a list of NSR250 frame numbers for date of manufacture.
I am in Canada and am planning on importing a bike from Japan. As you may know, Japan doesn't recognize date of manufacture or "year " of bike as it is in the 250cc class.
My country insists I provide the date of manufacture in order to clear customs and importation to get it registered.
Honda Canada is not willing to be helpful.
Honda UK will provide a certificate once I pay and give them the frame and engine numbers, however they say it will take 12 weeks to get it to me in Canada. This presents a problem as once I buy the bike from auction, I will only then get the numbers, the bike will have arrived here long befor I get anything from Honda UK.
Any info or help would be sincerely appreciated!! I'll buy a service manual if I can be assured it has this info!!

It's not quite so straight forward as that - the frame numbers don't appear to run consecutively from year to year (ie a range of numbers may cover models from a number of years - depending on the spec). Have a look at the parts manual section from the menu in the top left of the page and see if you can pick your bike from those shown. I believe the chassis numbers on that page are derived from the ones shown in the Honda parts manuals. Perhaps you could post a pic of the bike, or the description, to help narrow it down a bit.

Make it up?

MC18s and MC21s didn't have a huge production run. You'll only be out by a year or two at worst.

As you have found, it's pretty difficult to chase up....

If the seller wont give you the engine and chassis numbers before you purchase it, I'd find another NSR if I were you.
Not sure how things work in Canada, but here in NZ we use engine and chassis numbers to check a vehicle doesn't have money owing or isn't stolen before we make the purchase.

I can get the numbers from the auction before I buy it but the bikes sell every wednesday, and then gets shipped.
That means I will get the bike in about 30 days. Where it will then sit at a customs holding yard until I can get documents from Honda UK. Thats $55.00 a day for probably 2 months!
