Hi everybody, I just bought my first roadbike an NSR 250 93" and what a bike! It handles brilliant, awesome stopping power, and acceleration, It goes like a rocket! And this is no ordinary NSR 250, the bloke who last had it really knew what he was doing, the exaust system, inlet valve system, cam, and cylinders have all been modified, de-restricted and rebuilt to make the engine far more powerful, and not needing to be reved quite as much to achieve maximum power = faster acceleration and longer engine life without sacrificing top speed.
THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THIS BIKE IS IT ISN'T CHARGING THE BATTERY ANY ADVICE/ INFORMATION ON POSSIBLE CAUSES/REPAIRS/SIMILAR PROBLEMS? WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
hi, i joined today & was going td ask the very same question, mine started doing this last wk 4 the 1st time.it seams my batterie is good because it recovers after a few mins to enable me to go a few more miles . ive cq ,ed it with a meter £ theres charge going to the batterie . im now thinking theres a short circuit somewhere . tell me if u find the reason or is it a known fault
Welcome to the Forum "ride or die" and "almond151"!
How does the bike start and ride with a fully charged battery? What are the exact symptoms? Does the motor start to misfire after riding for a while or do the lights just get dimmer? Does it become hard to start after a long ride unless you recharge the battery?
First thing to do is check the battery. Make sure it is in excellent condition and fully charged. Take a reading from it with a voltmeter. It should show over 12V freshly charged, or you are fighting a losing battle straight away!
Next check how the charging system is performing. Start the motor and put a voltmeter across the battery terminals. Blip the throttle and you should see a fairly consistent reading of around 13.8-14.2 volts. If the reading is constantly lower than this, you have a problem somewhere.
Let us know how you get on. _________________ Andy.

hi, i charged batterie fully & left it 3 days , it still read 12.7 v i got a reading of 14.5 with it running . i then rode it 40 miles (no lights on, using indicators sparingly) ran well, ater 35 m no indicaters, 1mile later spluttered to astop espesially when using brake light .waited 5mins batterie recovered started easy ran for about 3 miles batterie 11.5 after i spluttered home
could be that you regulator rectifier isnt doing its job properly, i had a similar problem on my CBR. _________________ MC21SP - Roth-tax

Almond151 my bike has the exact same symptoms as yours and with a brand new battery, I think Andy might be onto something with the regulator/rectifier, thanks Andy for your advice, my bike's been like this since i got it so i didn't know whether it was a gradual or sudden problem, but with Almond151's bike doing it suddenly, it rules out any alternator/magneto problems because from experience, they die slowly, not all of a sudden. PROBLEM RECTIFIED.
I had reg/rec just over heat and burn-out, would like to know why. I just started the bike and in minutes smoke started coming out from under the seat. Took out the regulator & it had a nice melted spot in it. Could this be the common problem with the factory regulator, I do know NSR's have this problem which risk the PGM being ruined. Have installed a replacement but it's been raining for 4 days so I haven't been able to test it.[/img] _________________
Sounds like rectifier problems most common fault on HondasI would advise when fitting new one to use heat transfer glue to aid heat transfer _________________ NSR MC28 SE(CASTROL)(sold)
Well it stop raining and the replacement regulator is either N/G or the problem is worse then I thought. bike climbed to 18+ volts before I shut it down. I used a regulator from a 91 VFR750 check a regulator listing and it said they are the same. Maybe it was a bad one ? I'll get a brand new one tomorrow. I asume if it climbs to 18V the rgulator is not working ? _________________
Jeff, yeah, 18v is way too high - should be more around 14.8 max. Best fault finding chart I've ever seen is at eletrex website (http://www.electrexusa.com/electrosport_fault_finding.html) - takes step-by-step approach. Corrosion on the connectors is the enemy -can itself fry a regulator as resistance (and heat) build up. I hope that helps. Good luck and let us know. _________________ -Jim

hi, it sounds like theres 2 different problems being talked about here, (1) where correct charge is actually getting to the batterie but is draining out somewhere.&(2)where reg/rec burns out or produces too much charge & boils the batterie & then poss burns out loom &pgm , these later symptoms happend to me on kawa z1 ,& also a suzi gsx 250
hi, am back in the country again * about to get back to sorting this charging problem. i have downloaded the fault finding flow chart from electrex :: which jim(san diago) told us about.my battery fully charged & left 4 a few days =12.5v but when reved to 5000 reading goes down to 11.95. it =12.5 again when switched off . problemis i need a wiiring diagram so i know im checking correct wires. is one available 4 a mc21? the v\ reg seams to have a5pin connector with 3* yellow, 1* double red,+1* green . also there are 2 * 4 pin
