My newest addition - NSR500 Replica

Sun Oct 25, 2009 9:10 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

This is the last toy I have been lucky enough to buy....and probably the last one I will ever be allowed to buy, it is pretty close to the bike I always wanted to build myself but probably couldnt to anywhere near the same standard. So by that account I guess its not really my build although I do plan on some significant changes to it myself but nearly all cosmetic as engine is already pretty sorted, may look at a conventional swing arm on it at a later date.

Basically its a NSR500 replica made with a VFR400 frame and a RG500 tuned motor.

Many have probably seen this bike before. Its a bit of a mongel as you may notice and I dont think a single part is from an NSR (am I still allowed it to be in this section?), although it will be wearing a set of MC28 magteks soon. The other side is not nearly as pretty either following a bit of bad luck by its previous owner and a stray car pulling out on him.

My plans are a new set of bodywork, either Tyga's 500gp style or maybe some Sihouette bodywork, I cant really decide just yet, then some nice new paint - although I quite like the rothmans kit and it will look great in my garage alongside the Rothmans MC28.

First plans are to sort out the damage and get it going again....I am just itching to get out on it!! Very Happy

.......wondering how much stick I get for this bike, I know I get stick for every ohter bike I buy! Plenty of ammo for you having a four stroke frame and a Suzy motor, but like all my other bikes I love it anyway!

I could not decide if I really wanted one that was full Suzuki, but when this one came available it seemed right to be sat in the garage alongside my MC28 as a 500 replica......unfortunately a real Honda 500 would be WAY out of my price range and the RG500 motor is about as good as I was ever going to get. Maybe I should put it into Suzuki colours then? The NSR500 moulds would be great, especially if someone could do them in Carbon Wink . Iwill have a search!

It was just a 500cc 4 cylinder two-stroke that I really wanted, a honda one if possible but unfortunately that wasnt going to happen!

More pictures will follow if I dont get banned!

I think that type of fairing with those low air intakes is what most people think of when you talk about nsr500's.
Its probably not going to bolt straight on but I wouldnt have thought it would be a major task to adapt and modify them.

Yes your irght, it would look great. I am also considering the silhouette kit which also has the scoops in it, you can also buy that kit already apinted which would be a bonus!

If you can talk Russel into making it, I have no qualms about it being absolutely stunning kit! His work is outstanding, and he's a 2-stroke enthusiast too... albeit a Yamaha one mainly! Laughing

I think if you were to leave the bike with him he could easily custom build the fairing around it. I think the NC30 frame is about 2" wider than an NSR, so quite how you'd stand with a Silhouette kit I'm not sure. What it would cost you to get a painted one over here though I expect would more than pay for a 500 kit from Russel. Silhouette are far from cheap... and that's before you even get it shipped! (And damaged in transit!) Shocked

Andy, you are spot on.

I have been in touch with Russell and he is going to dig the mould out and take some measurements, it really would be the perfect kit for the bike so probably worth waiting (and saving) to get.

The hardest bit would be getting the rear pipes out of the seat unit, but I am sure anything is possible (but uaully expensive).

Even the tyga kit is quite close against the carbs on the side so something wider would be better, narrower would definately cause problems.

Well I finally got the front end back together, new (old NSR) front wheel, Galfer wavey discs, race clip ons, new throttle new forks and mudgaurd.

Unfortuanately I dont have new bodywork just yet so its looking very shabby, still got belly pan to fit but it was enough for a quick test ride up the road....it felt very good, power is really strong...maybe take a little getting used to having only been riding MC28's and an RGV.

Its almost the same, not mine though as it has a different number plate, fairing and a fair few other bits..

Looks like another Darren Lane build though and is very similar, looks like another with a VFR chasis.

She is not that pretty yet and I plan on fitting standard shape NSR fairing but it absolutely flies, and i cant wait to get it 100% complete.

Getting nearer.

Got the NSR fairing fitted and layed up the seat unit for a trial, exhausts need a very small adjustment to make them fit but I thinkn that can be done by moving the rear mounts a couple of mm each side, then I need to get a seat pad made up which has plenty of insulation to stop cooking my balls! Also got some Magteks on the way for it, a white rothmans mudgaurd and eventually I have a CBR400 rear wheel and swing arm to stop all th moaning about the bendy one thats on it Wink

Anyway, for now/this summer its staying with the slightly more modern twist and having the Tyga seat unit in place although I will be doiong the wheels and mudguard and hopefully getting the tank repaired:-
