Fastline...If Carlsberg did bike shops........

The other weekend me and my mate Si had a drive over to Fastline in Preston. The only thing I knew of Fastline was a couple of mates (banshee & bd197) had bought very tidy MC28's from there, John (one of the Salesmen) had an MC28 and some recent 28's were being sold for £6500!

Compared to many bike shops (we'd been to 3 that day), these guys are truly enthusiastic about their bikes and are extremely welcoming to boot. I was expecting to have a look at their bikes and then be on our way back to Leeds, we were there for 3.5 hours!

At the time, they had 3 NSRs in the shop. A 28SP Rothmans already sold at £6.5K (to a girl Cool, she had waited several months to find a really tidy example. 2 more MC28's up for sale around the £4K to £4.5K mark, both also extremely tidy.

Fastline make regular trips to Japan, and put a lot of effort into buying very clean bikes, prepping containers with suspended floors (2 levels of bikes) etc. They told me the price of tidy NSRs was increasing recently as there has been an influx of Russian, Chinese & Korean buyers at the auctions in Japan, all bidding for the same bikes. This coupled with the Japanese finally realising the 'appeal and value' of the 2 stroke race reps now and also buying again. John thinks that this 'relatively' easier supply of good quality NSRs (and other 250 2Ts) will not be as easy in a years time or so, with increasing Japanese interest to retain these rare bikes.

As well as NSR's, their showroom was packed with great bikes. Highlights were an NR750 and RG500 (privately owned but on long term display!). A mint RZV500 (alloy framed RD500) 1983 with 7000 km, started 1st kick, in the showroom Cool

John has an 1994 MC28SE, imported brand new. He's done 70,000 km on it, he's even taken it over the Stelvio Pass in the Italian Alps Cool . No mods, in 40 bhp form, but still on the original crankshaft. Testament to the quality of the Honda engine and longevity when left in standard trim and run on good oil from new. This guy has NSRs running through his veins (and even a NSR250 stained glass window at home), it was great to meet & talk to someone so enthusiastic - just like the weekend at Beaulieu.

I highly recommend a trip to their shop.

They sound a bit like Sumo (Soto) Bikes where I bought my MC21 from all those years ago. Unfortunately they have closed down since the early import "boom years", but the guy who ran that would talk the hind legs off a donkey about NSR's and other exotic imports! Smile

That NR needs a TYGA pipe on it! As much as (everyone already knows) bore strokes aren't my thing, Paul's sounds proper menacing with their pipe on! Shocked

i agree with rich on this one !!!
fastline is where i bought my bike from and they do get very clean bikes in not just nsr`s
also which i think is very important is AFTER SALE CARE !!!!!!
as you may know i had a few little jobs that needed doing to my nsr when i got it but there was no problem they sorted it no messing!!!!!

i would certainly buy from fastline again!!!!!!!!

What a shop! me and phil had trip up there last week and am still drooling now Laughing some of the kit they have in there i think i have now gone blind! Rolling Eyes Laughing

Yes its great to find a shop that still tries to cater for minority groups, but I think you might need to look closer at the bikes before stumping up huge ammounts of money Very Happy I was there for several hours as well when I went, that side of business is very good, got talking to John, and customer service was fantastic, had a few problems but sorted 'eventually' I was satisfied but not overly impressed with the 'stock' and had I travelled just to look or buy, would have been well disappointed, on the other hand there was a truely mint 28 that i would have had (but it was the only one, and it was sold) others were mediocre but advertised as 'mint', I suppose it depends in individual expectations ????

I went to look at what was supposed to be a mint 21 for a lad a while ago that turned out to be a 21/28 bitsa.

I personaly wouldnt buy a bike from them again. My FZR400 eat 2 gearboxes before they realised they had missed a spacer out.

It is nice to go and have a look round though.

I was in there yesterday. Plenty of cool stuff to look at but most of it has a 'SOLD' sign on already. Why haven't these new owners already picked up their bikes ? Couldn't find anyone to talk to, but didn't have much time to wait. Not worth a special trip but worth popping in if you're passing.

First time I've been to those premises by the way. Wife bought a GSX-R400 off them years ago when they were in that big warehouse. They were quite good to deal with back then.

I bought a few bikes off them in the past and still have one of them to this day KR1. I have found in general they are very good but can be a little overpriced at times. saying that though they still lookafter the oldr bikes unlike most other shops
