NSR/ CBR SWAP

Fri Jan 07, 2005 5:57 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

First time writing to you guys. I love reading your stuff and getting the info I need for my MC18rj(NSR's are rare here in the States). Just received my new Tyga pipes and they are superb. Anyways, I noticed that many parts on the NSR were later used on CBR's. I'm looking for both clutch and brake levers(my son dropped the bike trying to ride it down the ramp of the moving truck) and haven't found a source. HELP! By the way, does a 17" rear rim from a CBR600 fit on an NSR? Hmmm, good question. Any help would be greatly appreciated. AMA/CCS Amateur #223.

Hi Raul, welcome to the forum.

You'll find that many of the Honda brake and clutch levers fit the NSR. Indeed many levers from other bikes will fit too. I just went to the stall at the track when I dumped mine and broke a lever. Easy way is to take the original along and compare it...

As for the wheel I don't know, and can't remember anyone doing that conversion. Maybe you'll be the first and can then let us know!

hey , i am in the states too and know your troubles well . yes you can use most parts for VFR and CBR on a NSR. that goes for wheels and levers , rectifier regulators too. now my question is , can i use the rear shock off a f3 600 on my nsr ?

Be careful on the brake lever. I had problems with my front brakes locking up when I first bought my NSR. There was an aftermarket lever on there that never fully released the brake. I had to grind the contact point down a bit to avoid the inevitible endover.

i ve just looked into fitting a cbr 600 rear wheel to my cbr 400 and the main problem seems to be the width of the hub
i spoke a guy who has done it he has a long background in engineering he reckoned it needed a lot of very accurate machining and he had alot of troubles getting the rear disc /caliper to line up
so i can only assume the same problems would occure with the nsr as the rear ends are very similar

Tyga was selling some fancy anodized ones a while back. But you have to grind a little of the brake lever to add freeplay or your wheel will lock in the heat of the sun or riding. Most CBR levers will work.

As for the CBR rear shock there is are a few people that have done that, do a search and you'll might find the thread. I tried but couldn't, it may have gotten dumped it was a while back ? They guy that did it had a West NSR which was listed in the Classified Extra sold on ebay.

I also have a 17" black rear wheel spare I was going to sell and a black CBR F3 front. Were are you in the states ? I'm east coast.

the shock on these bikes vary greatly, the cbr400 nc23 shock will not go on a 29 and a 29 shock is different to a mc21......although i dont know abot the 23 shock going onto a 21.

also the 29 shock is the same as older model cbr600 Smile
