F250 Snetterton June 23/24

Round 6 of the F250 championship brings us to Norfolk and Snettertons long straights.

Alan Armour #4 (RGV) is still dominant – two excellent rides at Brands saw him re establish himself as the two stroke rider to beat. Unnoticed by many, were Steve Pond’s #173 (RGV) rides at Brands. Though he finished behind the battle between Jordan and Ellerker he lapped faster and had been closing on them. Up to now Steve who hasn’t ridden at Snetterton has been using his spare slow machine. This weekend he has his number one quick bike with him which will prove useful on the long straights. Second in the series Ross Searle will be praying for rain. His lightly modified Aprilia is likely to struggle against the more highly tuned machines of Armour, Pond and the Kawasaki of Mark Jordan.

The old Kawasaki KR-1S go well here. Scott Mills #11 is riding Dan Hegarty’s old KR and that machine was capable of running with former F400 champion Ady Warrant at this circuit. Old campaigner Mark Jordan #96 on his Team Sparrow KR-1S is the rider most likely to trouble Alan Armour. Once the KR winds itself up, few bikes can live with it in a straight line. Having said that Mark is taking it easy this season as he is shortly off to Bonneville to see if his KR can take the 250cc production record during Speed Week.

The Division II battle is hotting up. Dino Brady #85 (RGGV) now holds a slender lead over Matthew Graves #95 (RGV) and Mark Bamford #109 (RGV). With all the riders new to this circuit the playing field will be level. Aprilia riders Phil Atkin and Liam Abbott are snapping at their heels.

New to the series and first time with Derby Phoenix is Adam Molloy #33 (RGV). Adam, who has been doing very well in North Gloucester’s Road Stock series, is pitting his Road Stocker against some of the fastest production 250’s in the UK. It will be interesting to see how he fares.
