Hi , when you finish ride don`t turn off the engine , first close fuel and wait a while with running engine then turn off. Otherwise when you starting engine try to start without open fuel and with full open choke when engine start then open fuel. If plug sparks doesn`t run try to clean it (to dry)

plugs

For any stroker the plug condition will tell you an awful lot about what's going on.
When you put the bike away it might be worth while checking the plug condition and also when you try to start it up.

Riding style, plug grade and type, fuel and oil type could effect starting as well as more sinister potential issues like a crank seal on the way out - could be weeping tranny oil into the crank case when it's not in use (I'm not intimately familiar with the NSR V twin but this applies to any performance stroker) or, you might need to service your carbs and perhaps fettly the pilot jetting to suit the starting.

At any rate, more info would be needed before you can start pinning down the problem.

I have a similar problem withmy MC18. I have just had all the carbs apart and made sure they were clean, put it back together, put in new plugs and it runs great...for about 20 mins, then one cylinder goes down, so I take a plug out of my mc28 the it starts to work again fine until the other plug stops firing, what can cause a plug to fail (they still look new and clean).

Incidently I have done a compression test on both cylinders are fine.

What grade are the plugs?

Stockers are BR9ECM. (For the MC18. MC21, and MC28)

Yep, BR9ECM. Incidently the main jets are 128 is this standard? Looks like the carbs have been off once or twice before!!!

Mk1 MC18 = 118MJ (I recall)
Mk2 MC18 = 128MJ

After the 20 minutes - when the bike dies, what colour are the plugs?

Andy.

the first one that failed still looked pretty new, the top cylinder that failed second was blacker. Mine is a mark 2 MC18 with the higher swept exhausts so I guess its still standard.

Hi, I've been having a power loss with my bike but no misfiring (till I checked all the electric's)!, then the bike began misfiring after 20min's or so, most noticably between 6 and 8500 rpm. Crying or Very sad

I traced the problem to the front coil, after removing the spade connector's and their rubber boot's, one of the connector's was all black and gunged up, Stripping back the wire revealed it to be BLACK! Shocked

I chopped into the loom in a few places, the copper wire on the black/yellow is badly tarnished at least 18inches back from the terminal! Confused

I'm going to replace the full length from the PGM to be safe.

No wonder the bike had poor performance!

This may or may not be linked to to your problem, but may help, checking the condition of the female spade's is difficult without removing the rubber boot.

I'll let you know in due time wether this has cured my ongoing running problem's.... Wink

Good luck!

Regard's Phil
