forthcoming Performance Bikes 2-stroke feature...

Tue Oct 19, 2004 3:40 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Sean from RGV250.co.uk has been in touch to say he's been e-mailed about a forthcoming PB 2-stroke feature. Here's a copy of the e-mail he's received:
"The feature I'm doing on advances in two-stroke technology and a possible comeback will be in the Jan issue (out towards end of November).

You could actually help me out a bit if that's ok - I want to know what current two-stroke owners would think to a new stroker with injection, four-stroke bottom end (injected air to scavenge, so cases not required to act as a pump), no sweet synthetic smells and potentially a delivery almost as smooth as a four-stroke.

Would they buy it? Are they all purists, preferring the conventional style engine? If you could maybe stick something on the forum or contact some mates to get a few views then I could use some opinions in the feature, anything you can perhaps get would be greatly appreciated.
"
If the response here is worthwhile, then I will e-mail Mike (the PB writer) with your points-of-view and see if I can direct him towards the Forum too.

Maybe a lot of interest from us "strokers" could help persuade PB to do another 2-stroke frenzy in the summer?!! ;)

Cheers,

Andy.

"Would they buy it". The only thing i dont like about 2 strokes is the unreliability,so if the new 2 strokes are reliable then yes i would have one but there are other issues. The reason i love my nsr is more than what stroke the engine is,there are lots of other 2 stroke bikes that i dont like, and i have to admit there are some 4 strokes that i like.the main reason i love my nsr is its the nearest im ever going to get to having a gp bike on the road.I think if you asked any 2 stroke race rep owner what there dream bike to own and have on the road would be i think most would answer "a 500 gp bike"mine being a nsr 500 or yzr 500.So what i trying to say is if they fit the new 2 stroke engine to a new gp rep bike eg 2004 rep nsr 250 then i would have one,but only if they used them in gp,put a new 2 stroke engine in a gsxr or something like then no thanks, whats the point. But maybe part of the loving a 2 stroke for some is the unreliability,i mean what would we talk on this site if they were reliable.

Bimoto V-DUE V500 2 stroke ? Just saw a little piece on Speed Vision, looked like some one is finishing a great idea that Bimoto had. Anything like what PB is doing. I would love to have somehting in the 500cc V 2 stroke for the road.

" no sweet synthetic smells and potentially a delivery almost as smooth as a four-stroke."

Errrr, I think that some one's missing the point here.

Surely two strokes are all about the smell, the noise and the sheer brute hooliganism of the whole scene.

If I wanted to smell like a bus and have a nice linear power delivery then I'd use deisel as cologne and ride my Mum's sewing machine around.

Long live the light switch!

It's the power output compared to the weight that is the two stroke advantage. If they can maintain that then we're half way there.

The lightswitch delivery is the second reason, and maintaining that is also pretty high on my list, but I guess they could be turned to produce any kind of delivery you like.

With software too no doubt, so you can flick between 'town' and 'country' modes!

Bring it on!

the two stroke in its current form is dead Crying or Very sad so i,m all for anything that will stop it dissapearing for ever. so long as it keeps some of the kick in the pants power delivery of the original. and the screem from the pipes, on full chat. thats a good point would it have expansion chambers, or a dust bin stuck on the side Shocked as for the smell from the exhast. they could have an oil injection on the top end , a bit like the mazda RX8. and we could run castrol R. Very Happy
at the end of the day. if its small light. and has a wicked power band i,ll have one.
just think, no rejetting when you fit them tyga pipes Wink

Two strokes, by design are twice(at least) as efficient and half as noiy and expensive to fix and tune, and have about a tenth of the spinning parts generating friction/noise/heat and were making 250 bhp per litre before most of us were born!!!!!!!
I dont see the logic at all and have always thought it mad that four strokes were ever put into bikes in the first place.
Two strokes finished, ha Very Happy we'll see
They dont weigh owt either!
Come to think of it they pollute less too, in all ways bar h/carbon emissions. Got to be a conspiracy lads Sad
