Great, I think Ive got the nsr bug now... Ive been reading posts from this forum like it'll be gone tomorrow. (nice to know my tranny dipstick isn't broken off.. I was going to ask that question.. LOL!!)

anyways, A friend just found out I bought an MC21 and asked if I was interested in a "project"? Its an MC18, but is missing its front end (along with a bunch of other stuff).

Being its basically from the same era, I am wondering if a complete front end (triple clamps to wheel) from an early CBR600 is a direct "bolt on" part? Early CBR parts are still dirt cheap and it would be great if I could get this bike on 2 wheels on the cheap. It would be solely a trackday bike so overall originality means nothing to me as long as it is a 2 stroke and remains relatively lightweight...

any advice or recommendations greatly appreciated!! photos are great too!!!

I think youll find most will fit, the problem you might have is the NSR stem, not sure if its the same on the 18 as it is on the 21 but, most here, retain the nsr stem and bearings otherwise its quite a task to get others to fit, so i think youd need to fine a good stem or a set of old yokes from an 18 first, swap the stems over and away you go, there is posts around about front end conversion, might be worth a little dig around while you wait for some more input!!

I dug around some more, but didn't find a definitive answer on the triples being a direct swap?
If I am unable to suss it?, where would be the best place to locate a set of NSR triples? RS250 the same?

these bikes aren't THAT bad are they? Im not opposed to the occasional BANG, but now I dont want to rev past 3k..

No ive just had some bad luck, she's goes like a rocket, but something has broken a ring, and after the repair, it happened again so i think it needs futher investigation!!!!!, The NSR's are quite reliable but it is a 2 stroke and it is a few years old now!! so things do wear!

Its only the stem you need, A few people here use the stem from the NSR and fit a NC35 upsidedown from end, The hard bit i guess is finding someone who can swap the stems over as its a press fit, and small weld!

You have to be very careful with 'just' swapping stems... Unless the fork offset is very close to 35mm, (the standard NSR offset) you will change the geometry significantly. The NSR offset is also quite large, so it pays to check before hand or you will end up with a slow steering bike.

you could just have a new aluminium stem made up like I had on my RGV250.

I`ve been wondering about having one made up to take the standard sized taper roller bearings as found in the RGV.

If, of course, I ever feel I can be bothered to change the front end.
