New marketplace product suggestion: Rearset plates.

Sat Apr 29, 2006 9:44 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Someone please make some plates with a multitude of threaded holes, enabling us to move the standard footrests back and/or up as wanted.

They would be cheaper, as efficient but maybe not such posers as normal rearsets.

it should be a plate that connects to the frame, to the 2 points where the standard footrests connect. The rest of the plate should enable the std. footrests to be moved back and/or up within, lets say 2-3cm back and 3 cm up (or what people want) from standard position, which would give you 6-9 threaded holes.
It should be bent or machined so that the rests wouldn't be moved outwards but only back and up.
The plate should be stiff enough so the rests are stable.

I have seen some plates, some time back, but can't find them again.

they could be bent out of stainless, that would be easy/cheap maybe a little heavy, but they could be straightened easily after e crash or machined out of aluminium, but then would probably have to be replaced after a crash.

A longer gearchange arm should of course also be found/made.

The plates would also be of value to people who contemplate buying an expensive rearset, but don't know how long back and up they want.

they could buy some cheap plates to test the position and then find a suitable rearset.

Dave Ett is the man for cheap (nasty?) alternatives to rearsets, all you need is a bit of steel (preferably rusty) to move the bottom rear set hole back 3/4" or so and thus the peg up quite a bit, there's only point in doing one side as on the other side the pipe grounds out first. Dave will tell you which side, I believe the right hand side benefits from a slight lift.

TBF just buy some rearsets.
