Help Help Help Honda NSR 250 1989 MC 18 Front Disc Brakes

Tue Feb 07, 2006 1:05 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi,

Long time owner, first time poster.

I currently own the best motorcycle in the world but for one exception. Parts are hard to come by in Sydney Australia and information is even harder.

My problem is this. My front left disc has had the rivets damaged and therefore requires replacement. I have been trying to locate replacement discs since December 2004 and have been unsuccessful, hence the exception.

Can anyone tell me where I can locate either second hand or brand new discs (without paying through the nose) that are within limits ie 3.5mm or wider?

Alternatively would anyone know if the later model NSR discs (MC21 or MC24) will fit, or even a model of CBR that may be adapted easily?

I am located in Australia but am willing to shop overseas.

Waiting in anticipation for anyone who can help me with my enquiries.

Regards,

Matthew

MC-21 disc will fit. I have found that all the front end parts are interchangable between the mc-21 and mc-18 1988. I have a set of used disc but shipping would kill the deal.

Check with the local wreckers. I found one that has a good selection of used nsr parts by trial and error. You have to find someone that knows what an nsr is...

Thanks for your advice guys. Can anyone clarify whether the front discs on the MC18 1989 are interchangeable with the MC21 model? If so is their anything like year models that I should be aware of? There are plenty of MC21 parts in this country but MC18 parts are as rare as hens teeth.

Also can anyone clarify whether the front wheels are interchangeable between these models and what year if they are?

Regards,

Matthew

Try www.econohonda.com...they are in NZ (or if you know the part No try parts@econohonda.com ....Malcolm seems very helpful and postage might be cheaper!!!!!!!!!! you could also look on www.trademe.co.nz & look for seller m benseman. He always has a lot of NSR bits up for grabs. Cheers Keith

Instead of buying new or used disks you could just replace the rivets.

On my 21 I ground off the rivets and replaced them with Brembo bobbins, just add a large copper washer at the back to take out the large amount of slack, and bobs your uncle, save cash, have full floaty disks and they look cool etc

Sorry to put an old post back up, but I wanted to thank everyone for their input into my problem.

As stated earlier info is at a premium in this country, and even Honda plus some of their dealerships were unable/unwilling to help me with my probs.

On another note, it would appear (have not purchased as of yet) that the MC18 and MC21 front ends are compatible ie easily interchangeable, even though the wheels are different specs.

Looks like I will be updating my front wheel to the MC21 spec (rotors attached - just to replace one brake rotor) because it is cheaper - not to mention easier - in this country to do it this way.

Anyways thanks again everybody for your insightful help.

Regards,

Matthew

There is one thing that was diffrent between the 1988 mc-18 and the mc-21 SE forks. The bottom of the fork legs are a diffrent thickness. mc-18 were thicker so the axle was to long. If you change front ends get the axle that goes with it.
