I think I got you beat Steve.

This is the result of a piss poor replate. The crhome was so thick around the ports and powervalves, The ring caught the slag and voila! You can see in some of the pics how bad the clearance is between the vlaves and chrome. I'm currently going through the warranty process with US Chrome. Lets see how it pans out. How do you guys think I should go about this? I want them to replace all damaged parts out right and I think thats more than fair. If I really wanted to be an arse, I can ask for time and labor to fix the fugg up. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt, but this is pretty blatant.

At least the ring didn't end up in the crank. Now that would bring out the attorneys. Twisted Evil
lol

Good luck with it. I wonder how they'll wriggle out? Can you proove it was their cylinder, and their replating etc? Was the work done by a pro or you?

I hope you have a good result, and thanks for naming and shaming!

Most definetly. The cylinders are serialized and i have all reciepts. I knew something was going to happen when I first saw the work. I called them originally and they told me that all was normal. Confused
As for the work, it was professionally done here by me at the shop then dyno tuned by Kevin Murray @ 60hp. So theres no question about workmanship. Just look at the pic of the powervalves.
I usually wouldn't blast a company like this but this has gone on since I first got the cylinders back from them. Since June.
FECK US CHROME!

Damm, I was planning on using US Chrome this winter. Where else can I send cylinders for machining and plating in the US. Or is this an isolated case? Anybody else have any problems with US Chrome?

well, Before I sent my cylinders there, I was told that they were the #1 place in the US for reconditioning. It took them a month to do them and they overcharged me. Thats not it either, they pulled out my coolant lines and I had to have some fabricated. After that the power valves barely fit cause the chrome was so damn thick. Now this. Sooooooo, take heed if you send them, this still may be a isolated incident. Confused
Lets just hope that it was a monday and the operater just got cercumsized @ age 44. That a good explanation for theis much of a feck up. ....right? Rolling Eyes

Hey John

THAT SUCKS!!!
Yours is worse, because you just put it back together.

Isn't there a place in Kearny Mesa that does replating?

Good luck with getting them to pay for the parts.

Well its time for episode 2. I just got a call from US chrome today and they admitted to the chrome flaking off and causing the destruction of the top end. Now they say that they will fix but I have to pay them $40 for the re welding. WTF!!!! Mad
They owe me an entire top end not just the repair of the barrel(but i got to pay for it????!!!).
when will this end. I hope to call them tomarrow and try to find some resolution in this matter. I'd really hate to take legal action.

Not having a lot of luck are you?

Stand your ground and hopefully they'll back down. Maybe. Confused

Welded? The bridge port cracked or something? I have had 2 separate issues with this same problem, and the welds still re-cracked almost immediately. I really dont think the welding thing is effective in any kind of permanent way.

Sad to say, I also had one issue with a cylinder plated by US Chrome. The first one I had replated did the same thing yours did. If they chamfer the top of the cylinder bore well, it helps prevent this.

I havent had any plating issues with the overbore cylinders, though. And all Eric Gorr's plating is done by US Chrome.

episode 3.....Now they are going to do the work for free, but I have to buy my own piston and gaskets. WTF! I even asked if I could just buy new parts and have them reimburse me for half the cost of parts....fair right? they refused. Evil or Very Mad
I really hope I dont have to do this again after I get the cylinder back.
FECK!

Okay now, need some opinions and advise guys.
Got my 'warranteed' cylinder back form US chrome and the clearance still looks bad. These feckers are some real tools. I just noticed today when doing a side by side comparison to a stock barrel that when Us chrumm cleaned up the nicom slag, they also took about 2mm of material off my exhast port. Now the power valve protrudes when it sits in the recess. WTF am i to do now? i really feel like i've been hosed bad on this one. What would you guys reccomend...other than sue the sh*t out of them? The first time I had a warranty claim all they did was reweld/rechrome the barrel and send it back to me. Bad piston and all. Said they wont cover the piston or related parts. WTF I am at the end of my patience. Evil or Very Mad

I'll get some pics up as soon as I can.

PS....Don't ever deal with US Chrome!

Hey John, know a good lawyer?

Have you actually rung them and explained what they've done?

Sounds like its time to write to them, with pictures of the unacceptable work, so your complaint is traceable, and tell them you've lost all faith and will send the barrel to another supplier to be repaired. You will then send them the bill for the repair, and the total cost of your time and parts to date.

Tell them you've copied the letter to your trading standards (or US equivalent) and expect an answer within 14 days. If you don't get a satisfactory answer, you will expect a cheque within a further 14 days or will take legal action to recover your costs.

You've been reasonable enough!

Actually, one of the owners of the shop I work at is a lawyer. I've already talked with him and he's all for it. I barely see the guy though. He's come over like once a month. Tomorrow I'm gonna write them a lil email and see what I get in response. .
On a lighter note, at least I still get to ride my 28 in the meantime.
