Storage preperations

Fri Jan 26, 2024 11:16 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Life has changed a lot in the past 2 or 3 years for me. Long story short I got married 4 years ago and now we have a 3 y/o a 2y/o and a 9 month old. We found out last month that the wife is expecting again So I have finally admitted to myself that I no longer have time for my 2 NSRs. I am currently selling my MC21 but I want to keep my MC28.

Basically I've decided to get it ready for long term storage. I'll be removing the coolant this week. is there any other fluids I should remove like 2T, fork oil etc?

One problem I do have is that my rear shock for the 28 is in a million pieces in a box and we lack shock rebuilders here in Ireland. Does anyone have any cheap shock for sale or is there any Chinese shocks I could buy to just basically hold the bike together as it sits in storage? I would honestly assume that the bike would be in storage for the foreseeable future, 5 to 10 years.

Congrats on the news of #4

Ref
would honestly assume that the bike would be in storage for the foreseeable future, 5 to 10 years.

I like the optimism as it might be a hell of a lot longer than that as the bank of dad will still be getting raided and cleared out up way up 2040 ….maybe longer if you’ve girls and then you’ll sell it to pay for a wedding Laughing

Since it’s a nice bike and to save all those years of storage costs - how about you give it to me to look after 🤣

yeah probably more than 10 years tbh.

That picture is of my MC21 that I'm selling. When I get a pic of my MC28 I'll throw it up.

So far its 2 girls.

Thanks Zeus, I put a lot of work into that bike, I have it up for sale here in Ireland. The only thing I have left to do is paint the wheels orange. My MC28 is a Repsol too.

Thanks Silikes, We are very happy.

Jeez Simon, you've been busy 😳! Hope all goes well with the new babby. On the mothballing of the 28,have you considered removing the motor, and dismantling it,and store the components properly? The cycle parts should be relatively easy to protect, but the crankshaft seals may not survive a long term like you propose. I have messaged someone, fairly local to you who may be willing to rebuild your damper, I'll let you know Best of luck. Owen.

Yeah I have thought about removing the motor alright. I may just do that, I'll see how the next couple weeks go.

Let me know if he can do that shock as I'm finding it hard to find someone. Thanks Owen.
