The problem is, to a degree, the alloy absorbs impurites over the years, and the only real way to effectively clean it is by vapour blasting. Anything other than that is just superficial, because no solvent can really get down past the surface, and into the "pores" and dissolve the grime!

Next best thing is possibly the dishwasher... just don't let the missus catch you! Laughing

Nothing really brings them up shiny and new unless you have them blasted...but wire wool and WD40 will improve the look a little, maybe make it more uniform.

You can see the difference from the enclosed images...

Just be careful using wire wool on aluminium, tiny strands break off and stick to it which you don’t notice until after you wash it!

Personally, I'd struggle to recommend anything abrasive like wire wool, but if it works for you... Confused I've actually seen barrels wire brushed, and it nearly bought me to tears! Sad
