Hi
I am interested to hear forum users ideas on how to refurb the kickstart lever on my MC21?
My MC21 has a kick lever which has some light surface rust on (the red stuff has got to go!) but its about the only rusty spot on the whole machine.
If I clean it up and get it re-plated in zinc it will be the only new/shiny bit on the bike. The bike is a low miles original and I am trying to retain the 90's patina the bike has developed without too many changes.
So I'm just interested to hear how you have got on?
i should have the 1 off mine knocking around in the garage,i will have a look and can throw it your way if you want mate _________________ ive seen more tarts than mr kipling
Only two real options with the current parts; replate or leave it. I understand your apprehension to replate it and have it sticking out like a sore thumb though, so would suggest cleaning the corrosion off, and then treating it with ACF-50. It won't stop the rust eventually coming back, but will slow the process down so you don't have to continually clean it.
Alternatively, you'll probably need to search Yahoo! Auctions or eBay for one in better condition.
There's probably some ageing process used by the top flight classic restoration guys to get the appearance you're after, but I expect it would be very expensive. _________________ Andy.

I think a clear coat will wear very quickly, unless you know someone who could get hold of synthetic two-pack (not the water based stuff car body shops have to use now... I mean the proper old school synthetic). That stuff can be rock hard, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal to spray in the UK now! I think some commercial/industrial trades may still be able to get hold of it though. _________________ Andy.
