Scott - I wouldn't say I know enough to rule anything out, but the clunking was harsh enough that I could feel it strongly through the pegs and bars, and the frequency seems to correspond with power pulses through the driveline. I wouldn't expect a bearing to 'feel' that way - but i've been wrong before!

The bottom end is sure quieter than every rgv i've heard, hopefully that's a good sign. The shifting was knotchy too, which seems to align with comments here about floating engines making for awkward gearshifts. Will fire you a pm now.
