man, that is great news that the threads are only supposed to be on one side of the knuckle! So the threads on the knuckle on the opposite side of the spline are enough to secure the bolt? Cool. No helicoil, yay! Sounds then like I just need to find a good quality 8 x 25mm flange bolt and make sure I situate it at the right place on the spline. From what I can see, if the knuckle is forward or aft of the right place on the spline, the spline threads will partially block the progress of the bolt. I think that's somehow the reason my original bolt stripped. Anyway, a big thanks for the info!
