MC28 RSW Build

dodgy » Fri Sep 07, 2012 10:38 am

I am going to put up some random thoughts on the spec of my work in progress.

Originally purchased as a less than tidy MC28 with the intention of building a special with it. Initially, I was keen on a Rossi replica, with the Tyga GP500 fairings, but when I saw a bike setup like this, the fairings looked out of scale.

Original ride on the bike the week that I purchased it below. I had just put on some Tyga chambers and silencers. This was six months after my hip replacement - I suffered a reasonable injury after hitting a wall at 200k plus on my Honda RS racebike... Sold that and purchased a Tiger Moth, but that is a different story...

After this ride day, I ordered the Tyga 300 kit with VHM heads, RSW bodywork and an R6 front guard.

Searching on Ebay uncovered a 2010 R6 front end. It didn't quite have the offset that I was looking for and I foolishly thought that a 2008 triple clamp would have the same offset at the MC28, but there you go. Forks have Ohlins springs and internals, recalibrated for the bike weight. Rear is Ohlins.

Engine is matched and flowed, 33.5mm bored carbs (have a set of PJ38s in reserve), carb tray out of the RS250, HRC inlets, Koso EGT dual gauge.

It was a drama finding a sticker kit and I had to wait six months to receive a Movistar Kato kit. It took about the same amount of time to sort out the correct colour code as well...

I need to paint the front wheel, sell the Magtek front, machine the top triple clamp to get rid of the ignition lock mount (and reanodise) and then ride the damn thing on the road!

Will post a final update and pics soon.
