tunning part 1 - bike up and Running, but not well - YET..

MAINE 2 STROKER » Mon May 02, 2005 1:00 pm

okay got the NSR back together over the weekend.
First run with new setup. i went rather rich on the mains to avoid any engine damage.

previously all stock, except the daytona filter in the airbox and carbon reeds. I rode the bike last year, and it felt very good. Reved fast and clean and i knew i had to own it.. Twisted Evil

now ive added tyga pipes and increased the mains from 130 to 147.5
cleaned the carbs, fixed my 2T oil seal leak, bled the pump etc..
put the bike all back together

bike fired right up with 4 kicks, (not bad for sitting all winter)

i did not touch the slow jets or the air screw.

bike ran pretty good sitting... might be pulsing a little bit too much, but not sure as this is my first NSR. Bike didnt rev quite as fast as i expected, but not that slow either.. When i let off the throttle, the bike slows down slower then i expected as well...

i had the tunning guides from this site, and tried to do some of that.
I turned up the idle (the knob next to the frame on the left, please let me know if im an idiot and this is not the idle screw) to try to get the 4k, but could only get it to go to about 3700..
folowing the tuning tips, i couldnt really get the bike to hold at 7k either
it seemed too sensitive, it would either shoot way past or stay below; after about 8 tries, i was able to get it to stay around 7k.. i had to go past, and then slwoly let it come down to 7k to do it.

all in all just seemed a bit rich to me, so i went for a 5 minute ride
(not registered or insured yet, so i didnt do any plug readings or anything)
Since it seem rich, and i wasnt worreid about a seizure. The bike had a stumble around 4 -5ish.. but then it came out of it
and would rev up (still slower then i would expect) and then right around 8k when im expecting a hit of power, it just kinda breaks all up and stuff
if you hold it there you can force it to slowly rev higher, but it is not really making any power, and deffinatly wouldn't rev to redline.

Soo... im thinking way to rich... drop down to a 140 main and test again?
i never touched the floats or anythign else in the carbs, so its unlikely i messed anything up.. but ya never know..

ill get the bike all legit this week so i can do some plug readings and more road testing soon...

Any suggestions appreciated
