Short video. (Sorry about the crappy mobile phone quality!)
So, I needed to find out why it wouldn't produce spark. Answer was the dodgy ignition switch. Pulled it off and "hotwired" the the bike. Got spark in no.1 cylinder, nothing in number two. Swapped over the coil from the other bike, bingo! Sparks a plenty.
Next, put the oririnal carbs that I had given a quick clean the week before back on. No dice. Float bowls still leaking and no fuel getting to the cylinders. Love 2 strokes no fuel, no spark no go.
Swapped the carbs from the running bike, 3 kicks later, she's running! Stoked! A few issues though:
- seems to be really oily, so running rich, or the oil pump is out of whack (i'm guessing here!)
- Needs a tune
- Needs the gearbox oil changed
- Needs a new ignition switch (which is coming)
- The turn idiot light flashes with the revs (see vid) so there is a short their somewhere.
Parts are on their way. (I hope!) Another set of carbs, switches, coil packs, ignition, carb gasket sets and some bits and pieces here and there. Will be starting to paint next weekend and chase all the electrical areas ready for rego.
Once this bike is sorted as the street bike, I can hunt parts at leasure to turn the other bike into my trackday only special. This will require another set of farings, but they are out there! Was thinking of painting it malboro colours, like the way that looks. Ahh the joy of bikes!
