MC16 - Getting engine out - lower mount!

Waldo » Sun Apr 11, 2010 1:26 pm

As you might have seen in my previous thread, my MC16 turned out to need a top end rebuild.

I figured I might as well take the engine out, as it could really do with a good clean anyway.

Next problem is that the bolt for the lower engine mount is stuck solid!
Engine is "free" to rotate around the bolt, but the bolt is solid in the frame...
I'm sure it been in there all it's life!

Is this a "normal" problem on the MC16?

I could leave the engine in there and do the top end, but I hate to spend money on a bike where the engine is stuck in the frame!

I'm getting the feeling that I will damage either the crankcase or frame to get it off, it's really that bad!

I know it will require some engineering, but roughly how much to fit a MC21 engine?
Reason is that I have the oportunity to get a good MC21 engine, and I'm seriously loosing faith in this MC16 that have seen better days...

My plan would be to mount the MC21 with custom made engine mounts (solid or flexible I'm not sure yet).
I've got MC18 carbs for it and expect the MC16 electrics to work with the MC21 engine, or am I way off?
I would run the MC21 pickup and flywheel, but the CDI, RC valve system and ignition coils of the MC16 if possible?

I will give the bolt some more exercise tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure it will break before I get it out!!!

Anyone got a spare MC16 frame that's real cheap? Would need to have V5 documents though...
