The viscosity of the gearbox oil, when cold, will be making the rear wheel spin. Even while in neutral.
The speedo drive is taken from the end of the drive-shaft, where the front sprocket mounts.
This will cause the effect you are seeing.


Bingo! I had the rear wheel, chain and sprockets off actually. Well spotted! Wink
