My MC16 into something that might go well eventually..

Bought this pretty cheap to be honest, but the back pot had typically seized.. think some smack head had owned it last so probably didnt use decent oil!

first day home..

I bought some mc18 barrels, pistons, carbs etc to replace the shagged mc16 items, found some tyres and got it to the mot station..

After bribing the tester it got a valid mot, so went for a run.

Fairly impressed, lots of room for improvement though! New brakes for starters so I bought a set of armstrong sintered pads and fitted them. Once they had bedded into the grooved disks the braking was a lot better and I started having fun on it.

Lovely....

After a scare with the old tyres I'd fitted I bought some bt45's and they did the handling a world of good! I also fitted some tyga cans to the standard pipes which freed the engine up somewhat!

I then fitted a cbr929 rear shock, which made the back end pretty bloody good to be honest, I fiddled with the front and got that somehwere near useable so she was not handling as well as stopping and going!

I had a trackday booked, that I was planning on using the rgv for, but due to not getting the heads back in time I had to use the little nsr for this task. I had worries about using it as its a pretty unknown quantity as to the crank life but what the hell.. if it went bang I'd use the nc30!

Well.. what a suprise, it went very well on track, struggling for power up the back straight at anglesey but where the diesels were passing me on the straight I was flying past them on the brakes! Even with bt45's the bike was really behaving well, inspiring lots of confidence!

Well that was it.. I was sure I could make it into a decent forgotten era racer for next year, maybe not fast enough to pass the leading reverse cylinder tz's but could certainly give them some hassle!

So I start getting a few ideas together, first thing is to bin the standard pipes. martin77 kindly made me a set for it, in kit form to save travelling down south to have them fitted..

But no fit with the standard swingarm so a '21 item was sourced (cheers ricey3) and I started fitting it the other day...

CBR929 shock

But the ride height is mental now due to the swingarm-linkage bracket being too high

Bum, but I'm sure I'll get round it somehow!

I'll post updates as and when I get the chance to work on it.. hoping for 65hp but a nice strong midrange!
