If that's how it works! That's why I'd like to clip a meter to the feed to see just exactly when it's live. More out of interest than concern I might add though. I certainly wouldn't expect the feed to be variable; just on or off, and most likely just +12V, so no need to complicate things with a resistor.

We all know that 2-strokes are only working efficiently over a narrow rev range (although the NSR's rev range is a lot wider than most! Smile) so this is why I'm not sure if it's just as simple as pumping more oil in when cold. This is when the plugs are already most likely to load up and wouldn't be surprised if the excess smoke when cold is more down to operating temperature than oil pump setting.
