Just because you have got away with it, I don't think it should be advocated.

I can show you small-end bearings and pins that have failed. I will ALWAYS advocate replacing all the components when doing a top-end rebuild after a failure. I too have re-used parts as a "quick fix" with success, but they have been replaced with new at the earliest possible opportunity.

I don't think it's good to say "it will be alright because I've got away with it", and I certainly don't agree with this policy.
