The needles are interchangeable, they are just slightly different profiles. The profile difference is due differences in the PGM-III programming for the air correction and ignition timing, requiring slightly different fuelling. While there will be a "designed optimum" from Honda, it's likely to be barely noticeable. However, saying that, I am not sure about internal differences in the carb bodies, and their combined affect on fuelling too.

As we always recommend here, completely original is always best, and work from that, but when it's not possible, get things as close to stock as possible, as you are likely to face far fewer issues troubleshooting or smoothing glitches out.
